We’re pouring one out with Esoteric in today’s spotlight post. West Street Market’s beloved wine bar is one of those hidden hot spots, but we think it’s time to let the cat out of the bag.
The Back Story
Remember when the West Street Wine Bar closed after a decade, because the owner retired to Florida? A day later, the place was hopping again. Only now, it goes by Esoteric, and Michelle Miller is the one calling the shots. And here’s why that’s totally awesome.
The certified sommelier (SOM) and specialist of wine (CSW) also happens to be an IWP (Italian Wine Professional) and a CWAS (California Wine Appellation Specialist). So what do all those acronyms mean? Girl knows her vino!
There are lots of places to get a bottle of wine in the Biggest Little City, but here’s the thing about Esoteric – it’s a haven for offbeat selections. That means the focus is on small-production, family-produced, biodynamic wines. Or, in other words, they aren’t your mama’s grocery store wines.
The Wine List
Choose from more than 40 wines by the glass, many of which are also available by the carafe or bottle. And with dramatic changes to the wine list every week, well, you’ll have a reason to come back!
All of this variety means Michelle can suggest the perfect pairing for a meal from restaurants in the market, from Thali and the DeLuxe to Sabrina’s and the Pizza Collective.
Esoteric also has cheese and charcuterie plates in the works, courtesy of the Pizza Collective, and you can join Michelle for tastings every Wednesday from 5 to 7 pm at “Wine Away Your Wednesday.”
This is the place to visit when you want to go on a tasting adventure, and a trip to wine country just isn’t in the cards. Michelle is your guide, and the journey is wild. Come, taste, relax, and learn. Whether you’re a seasoned afficionado or a vino novice, Michelle is excited to share her knowledge and tailor an individual experience for anyone who walks in the door.
